Leadership – Want Some? - Answers 55 Questions That Every Leader Has About Building And Growing Their CareerKnox, Indiana (PressExposure) June 24, 2008 -- Many leaders fear asking the questions that determine their very success, or they don’t know who or where to turn for help. In order to excel every leader needs to be able to focus on the task at hand and not with concerns about their own Career. Issues like pay, promotions, perks and others have always detracted Leaders from performing at their level best. In order to accomplish this leaders need to have easy and straight forward answers to the dozens of questions they ask through out their career. A few of the questions Leaders ask are answered in simple common sense language leaders can use to adapt to changes and challenges in their careers. How do I get a promotion? The current career currency is to join or lead a Project or get involved with a special team. Ask questions about upcoming projects, and volunteer to get on a special team or in a project. Even better yet offer to lead a team, this is an opportunity for you to stand out from the crowd and show others your latent talent. This is your way of obtaining currency to be used in your company for things like Pay Raises, Promotions, Perks, and even Benefits. How do I train my team with no money or time? If you can, video tape their performance and show it during one of your regularly scheduled meetings. Prepare yourself before the meeting, with notes so that you can be brief. Than just repeat as often as necessary, don’t use this as a butt chewing time, take the opportunity to grow your team, laugh, make suggestions, point out opportunity, and most importantly create the passion to review your group’s performance How do I squash rumors and refocus my team? If the rumor is not negative but right use it to your advantage, “were not the worst team, were the most improved”. If the rumor is negative and wrong, such as someone says “You’re leader is a liar” say “yes he is, he even lied when he said you were a good player”. Or “yea he used to be a secret agent they teach them to do that”, never argue about the rumors, instead redirect them. How do I build mental toughness with my team? Document their performance and reward them when they improve, put up pictures with details about “tough” people and what they had to endure to get their job done, encourage everyone to endure and sacrifice, share stories about how others sacrificed and came out a hero or got rich or won a championship. Have them create a strong and positive slogan to memorize and repeat daily. Watch a ROCKY movie or GI Jane, put them through an ‘Obstacle Course’ that challenges them and take pictures, and hang them up for all to see just how tough they are.
